George Netzow is a native of Germany but emigrated to the United States in 1925 and became a U.S. citizen. He has worked as a designing engineer since that time. Mr. Netzow served one year as engineer applicant in the Imperial German Navy and received his education at the State College for Engineering in Hamburg. In 1911 he became the first student flier with the Centrale fuer Aviatik in Hamburg, Germany, and made his first solo flights that year. He qualified for his license, October 29, 1912, after a delay due to severe injuries sustained in landing. His FAI license number is 315. From 1912 to 1914 he was an instructor on monoplane and biplane operation for German army and navy officers, and during World War I served as a pilot on the West and East fronts until the end of 1915. In 1916 he was test pilot for combat planes such as the Fokker, LVG, Albatross, Halberstaedter, etc. He was transferred to Turkey as pilot and commander of a Pursuit Plane Squadron and served as such to the end of the war. He possesses the Iron Cross and both Austrian and Turkish decorations.
